Ann's photoPublications/Public Relations Chair:

Ann Baxter
Baxter Glass Art
Grosse Pointe Park, MI, USA

Ann has worked in various art mediums throughout her life, from designing fashions and interiors to wood, clay, metals, needlework, illustration and painting, with a special interest in architecture and preservation/restoration.

It was that last interest, and the task of restoring a 1926 Tudor-styled home with many broken beveled/leaded windows and doors that turned her direction toward traditional leaded glass work. Once she learned the basics, the art of designing one-of-a-kind pieces and applying her painting skills to glass became her focus.

Working almost exclusively in glass since 1987, Ann now does most of her work on commissions from interior designers, architects and builders, and finds the most rewards in good design that compliments the structure. Her work is in many residential and community buildings, as well as a few churches, in southeast Michigan.

Ann spends her free time with her family, re-working her home and garden, and in many volunteer activities in the metro Detroit area. She has been a member of the IGGA since 1997 and on the Board since 2000. She is primarily responsible for producing the quarterly newsletter, Common Ground: Glass, the IGGA Source Guide, the Membership Directory, and the IGGA brochures and promotional merchandise.

Marceline's photoLocal Chapter Liaison:

Marceline Donaldson
Cambridge, MA, USA

Originally from New Orleans, Marceline still retains that charming accent and down-home charm while living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she runs a real-estate based Bed & Breakfast travel organization, The Bettina Network.

Schooled in Math and Physics, with advanced degrees from Harvard Business School and a Masters in Divinity from Boston University, Marceline is a woman of many, many talents. A few years ago, wanting to learn to cut glass so she could cover a wall in her bathroom with mirror tiles, she took a glass class from Dave Zaltzberg in Boston, and she was hooked. She is now the proud owner of a fully mosaic'd mirrored bathroom, walls and ceiling, and she has to warn her guests to be prepared before entering!

Marceline has continued to work in many facets of glass art since that project, including copper-foil and lead, and is now trying her hand at fusing with her new kiln. She finds great joy in noticing the time has flown while she is immersed in her art. In her free time, Marceline enjoys her family of four grown daughters and her music.

Gerry's photoHistorian:

Gerry Phibbs
In Search of Alternatives
Glendale, CA, USA

Gerry, a "hands-on" type of guy works in an ever-changing menu of media, including glass. His company, In Search of Alternatives, is in Glendale, California. He started working with glass in the early 1970's and was largely self-taught. His defining moment came when he observed a color-intense oil painting being hit by the setting sun, making it appear to be backlit. Realizing the power of that strong visual, and the subsequent chance to purchase a small stash of glass and supplies, Gerry found his path leading to glass.

Gerry is presently serving on the IGGA Board as Historian and is a founding Member and the first Chairman of the IGGA. His contributions on the Board and as a dedicated IGGA Member has helped guide us throughout the years.

Susan's photoMember at Large:

Susan Loubser
Dream Glass Studio
Pretoria, South Africa

Susan has an academic background in Geography and Town planning. All that changed in 1990 when her family relocated to Europe, and her love for stained glass started. She did all the courses from beginners to advanced before being approved as a glass artist by the Oxfordshire Guild of Artists. She did decorative work for exhibitions whilst tackling restoration projects in conjunction with local glass artisans.

In 2001 the family returned to South Africa. Susan then decided to expand her knowledge and glass expertise into warm glass, hot glass and flame working. Glass became such a passion that she decided to resign from a demanding position at the University of Pretoria. Her organizatoinal skills and attention to detail were in full use when she decided to create Dream Glass Studio. Susan firmly believes that through the passionate creation of a glass object you fulfil a dream, hence the name of the studio. She works full-time doing commissions and towards a future exhibition of glasswork.

The world of glass artistry is still a relatively new concept in South Africa, and Susan wants to establish a forum through which new ideas, innovative developments and issues in terms of quality in marketing, design and the craft in general, can be explored. She believes that this forum could open the possibilities of establishing a Chapter for the African continent. She lives in a quiet older suburb of Pretoria with her husband, sons, dogs and a parrot.
